First Grizzly Bear Encounter of the Year

Yesterday I had my first Grizzly Bear encounter of the year and what a great one it was.

Known to locals as ‘Scarface’ was spotted on the railway tracks in Yoho National Park, British Columbia. My initial thoughts were for his safety because he was on a narrow stretch of the tracks and trains were approaching. Scarface is either very clever or really lucky, over the time myself & another photographer spent with him, four CP trains went by, each around one kilometer long.

Nonetheless it was still an incredible first encounter and I look forward to seeing more of this Grizzly Bear over the summer months.

Although it is Mid-Spring right now, the weather and temperature vary so much throughout the Rockies. Yoho National Park at the time was getting dumped on with snow so I got some great Winter-like images and then by the afternoon it was warm and the snow had melted so I had some great Spring images.

‘The Hunter’ – At The Whyte Museum

Back in January I sent in a submission to show some of my Photographs at a group gallery showing at the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.

Out of the five photographs, my most recent entry, ‘The Hunter’ was selected. It has already sold for $320.

The Hunter was taken back in January on a trip to Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. After an awesome sunrise, a friend an I decided to drive back via Kootenay National Park and Radium Hot Springs. As we were driving through Kootenay we saw this Coyote pouncing in the air and driving his front paws through the snow and pulling out rodents. It was an awesome sight to watch her do this.

Here is‘The Hunter’ and below is the same photographed framed and up on the wall of the Whyte Museum. It has now been purchased and is hung in Colorado, US.

The Fortress

“The Fortress”

First off, its my 21st Birthday so this is my first post as an ‘old’ person!

This has slowly become one of my favorite images from this Winter, taken a few weeks ago on a trip to Abraham Lake. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of this mountain but nonetheless it is still a stunning mountain peak. Colour doesn’t do this image justice so I have converted it to Black & White to show more definition in the rock and the contrast between the light, dark & snow covered sections.

‘The Fortress’ was taken in Banff National Park along the Icefields Parkway on the right towards Jasper.
